Southampton Hoteliers Association present cheque to charity FareShare following money raised at recent local hospitality Awards.

Southampton Hoteliers Association presented local charity, FareShare, with a cheque of £2,000 following money raised at the inaugural Southampton & Region Hoteliers Association Hospitality Awards Ceremony 2018 that took place in February. The not-for-profit event was sponsored by Cab my Ride and supported by a number of local businesses to showcase high achievers and teams across the local hospitality sector.

Claire Martin, Development Manager at FareShare South Central Regional Centre,  welcomed the award’s organising committee, Richard Groome from DoubleTree by Hilton Southampton hotel, Vice-Chair of the Southampton Hoteliers Association and founder of the awards, Shirley Pinn from Destination Southampton and Treasurer of the Association and Anna Hales from The Marketing Collective providing the PR and marketing for the association. The guests, toured the warehouse and met the volunteers.

FareShare UK is a UK Charity who reach 1,500 towns and cities through 21 Regional Centres. They work to alleviate hunger by capturing surplus food and delivering it to the people who need it including homeless hostels, children’s breakfast clubs, lunch clubs for older people, domestic violence refuges and community cafés. Last year FareShare UK redistributed enough food for 36.7 million meals.

Local branch Southern Central which has been operating since April 2014, were delighted to be the chosen charity and to receive the cheque of £2,000. Claire Martin said, “It was an amazing event and an honour to be the chosen charity.  The money raised will help support groups massively to provide more meals to those in need’

Richard Groome commented, “FareShare Southern Central is an incredible charity helping those that need food in our local community by targeting the people that really need it. The amount of food that would go to waste if they didn’t exist would be astronomical. The volunteers that give their time and the food and drink industry that donate their over-ordered stock need to be recognized for helping to reduce the food poverty gap in the community.

We are already working on our 2019 awards that will take place on 7th February 2020 and our aim is to increase our charitable donation next year.”
